Description of the Prophet’s ﷺ Cup

Imam Aḥmad (1) said:
“Yaḥyā ibn Ādam narrated to us; Sharīk narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim, who said: ‘I saw in the possession of Anas the cup of the Prophet ﷺ; it had a silver band fastening it.’

Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī (2) said:
“Abū ʿAbd Allāh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Nasawī informed me; Ḥammād ibn Shākir narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl—i.e., al-Bukhārī—narrated to us; al-Ḥasan ibn Mudrik told me; Yaḥyā ibn Ḥammād narrated to us; Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, who said:
‘I saw the Prophet’s ﷺ cup with Anas ibn Mālik. It had cracked, so he stitched it together with silver. It was a fine, broad cup made of nudar wood. Anas said, “I have given the Messenger of Allah ﷺ drink from this cup more times than I can count.”
Ibn Sīrīn added: “It had an iron ring. Anas wanted to replace it with one of gold or silver, but Abū Ṭalḥah said, ‘Do not change anything the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made,’ so he left it as it was.”’

Imam Aḥmad (4) also said:
“Rawḥ ibn ʿUbādah narrated to us; Ḥajjāj ibn Ḥassān said: ‘We were with Anas when he called for a vessel that had three iron clamps and an iron ring. It was brought out of a black sheath and was slightly less than a quarter-sāʿ in size, yet more than half of a quarter. Anas ibn Mālik ordered that water be poured into it for us; it was brought, and we drank from it, poured it over our heads and faces, and invoked blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.’”
This chain is reported only by Aḥmad.

What Has Been Reported Concerning the Kohl-Bottle from Which the Prophet ﷺ Applied Kohl

Imam Aḥmad (6) said:
“Yazīd narrated to us; ʿAbbād ibn Manṣūr narrated to us, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a kohl container from which he would apply kohl before sleeping—three strokes to each eye.’”
Al-Tirmidhī (8) and Ibn … have likewise transmitted it.
