Her mother Umaynah said: I once asked Amatullāh bint Razīnah, the freedwoman of the Messenger of Allah, “O servant of Allah, did you hear your mother relate that she heard the Messenger of Allah speak of fasting on ʿĀshūrāʾ?”
She replied, “Yes. He used to revere that day. He would summon his own suckling infants and the nurslings of his daughter Fāṭimah, blow into their mouths, and say to their mothers,
‘Do not nurse them until nightfall.’ ”
This report has corroboration in the Ṣaḥīḥ.
Among them was Radwā (1). Ibn al-Athīr says: Saʿīd ibn Bashīr narrated from Qatādah, from Radwā bint Kaʿb, that she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about a menstruating woman’s applying henna, and he said, “There is no harm in that.” Abū Mūsā al-Madīnī transmitted it.
Among them was Rayḥānah bint Shamʿūn of the Qurayẓah tribe (3)—others say she was from al-Naḍīr; her account has already been mentioned after the section on his noble wives ﵅.
Among them was Zarīnah (4); the correct name, however, is Razīnah, as stated earlier.
Among them was Sāʾibah (5), a freedwoman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She transmitted from him a ḥadīth concerning a lost article (luqaṭah). Ṭāriq ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated from her, and Abū Mūsā al-Madīnī recorded it. So relates Ibn al-Athīr in al-Ghābah.
Among them was Sadaisah al-Anṣāriyyah (6), and it is also said she was the freedwoman of Ḥafṣah bint ʿUmar. She related that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Since ʿUmar embraced Islam, Satan has never met him without falling flat on his face.”
Ibn al-Athīr remarks that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Faḍl ibn al-Muwaffaq reported it from his father, from Isrāʾīl, from al-Awzāʿī, from Sālim, from Sadaisah. Isḥāq ibn Yasār also transmitted it from al-Faḍl, saying: from Sadaisah, from Ḥafṣah, from the Prophet ﷺ … and he mentioned it. Abū Nuʿaym and Ibn Mandah likewise narrated it.
Among them was Salāmah (7), the nurse of Ibrāhīm, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She reported a ḥadīth on the merit of pregnancy, labor, nursing, and sleepless nights; its chain and text are both unusual and objectionable. Abū Nuʿaym and Ibn Mandah recorded it through Hishām ibn ʿAmmār ibn Nuṣayr, the preacher of Damascus, from his father, from ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd al-Khawlānī, from Anas, from her. Ibn al-Athīr mentions her.
Among them was Salmā (10)—she is Umm Rāfiʿ, the wife of Abū Rāfiʿ—as al-Wāqidī (11) reports from her. She said, “I used to serve…"
