Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mandah(1)(2) said:
Muḥammad ibn Saʿd and Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm related to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-ʿAbsī narrated to us; Minjāb related to us; Abū ʿĀmir al-Asadī narrated to us, from Sufyān, from al-Suddī, from Anas, who said: “Ibrāhīm, the Prophet’s son—peace and blessings be upon him—died when he was sixteen months old. The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, ‘Bury him in al-Baqīʿ, for he has a wet-nurse who will complete his suckling in Paradise.’”
Abū Yaʿlā said:
Abū Khaythamah related to us; Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd, from Anas, who said: “I never saw anyone more compassionate toward children than the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him. Ibrāhīm was being nursed in the highlands of Madīnah, so the Prophet would go out(3)—and we went with him—enter the house, and it would be full of smoke, for his foster father was a blacksmith(4). He would take the child, kiss him(5), and then return. ʿAmr said: When Ibrāhīm died, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, ‘Ibrāhīm is my son; he died while still at the breast, and he has two foster-mothers who will complete his suckling for him in Paradise.’”
Jarīr(6) and Abū ʿAwanah both transmitted—from al-Aʿmash, from Muslim ibn Ṣubayḥ Abū al-Ḍuḥā, from al-Barāʾ—who said: “Ibrāhīm, the Messenger of Allah’s son—peace and blessings be upon him—died when he was sixteen months old. He said, ‘Bury him in al-Baqīʿ, for he has a wet-nurse in Paradise.’” Aḥmad(7) recorded it as well, through the ḥadīth of Jābir(8), from ʿĀmir, from al-Barāʾ; the same wording is reported by Sufyān al-Thawrī(9) through Firās, from al-Shaʿbī, from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, and likewise by al-Thawrī from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barāʾ.
Ibn ʿAsākir(10) also relates—through the chain of ʿAttāb ibn Muḥammad ibn Shawdhub, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā—that when Ibrāhīm died, the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said, “He will nurse the remainder of his suckling in Paradise.”
Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī said:
Zakariyyā ibn Yaḥyā al-Wāsiṭī related to us; Hushaym narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl, who said: “I asked—or I heard someone ask—ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā about Ibrāhīm, the Prophet’s son—peace and blessings be upon him. He replied, ‘He died while still a youngster, and had it been decreed that a prophet would come after the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—he would have lived.’”
