ʿĀʾishah said: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed away at the age of sixty-three.” Al-Zuhrī added, “Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyab informed me of the same.”
Al-Bukhārī (1) said: Abū Nuʿaym narrated to us; Shaybān narrated to us; from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr; from Abū Salamah; from ʿĀʾishah and Ibn ʿAbbās—that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) remained in Mecca for ten years while the Qur’an was being revealed to him (2), and in Madinah for ten years. Muslim did not record this ḥadīth.
Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī, in his Musnad (3), related: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Abū Isḥāq, from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd, from Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Muʿāwiyah ibn Abī Sufyān, who said: “The Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) was taken in death at the age of sixty-three; Abū Bakr at the age of sixty-three; and ʿUmar at the age of sixty-three.”
Muslim (4) likewise transmitted it through Ghundar, from Shuʿbah; it is among his unique narrations, not found in al-Bukhārī.
Some report it with the wording: “from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd, from Muʿāwiyah,” but the sound version is what we have cited: “from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd, from Jarīr, from Muʿāwiyah” (5). We have also received it through the route of ʿĀmir ibn Sharāḥīl al-Shaʿbī (6), from Jarīr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Bajalī, from Muʿāwiyah … and he mentioned it.
The ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAsākir transmitted—through the judge Abū Yūsuf, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, from Anas—who said: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed away at the age of sixty-three; Abū Bakr passed away at the age of sixty-three; and ʿUmar passed away at the age of sixty-three.”
Ibn Lahīʿah (7) reported, from Abū al-Aswad, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “The Messenger of Allah and Abū Bakr once compared their birthdays in my presence, and the Messenger of Allah was older than Abū Bakr. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed away at the age of sixty-three, and Abū Bakr passed away after him at the age of sixty-three.”
Al-Thawrī narrated, from al-Aʿmash, from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said: “Abū Bakr passed away after him at the age of sixty-three.”
Al-Thawrī likewise narrated, from al-Aʿmash, from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, Abū Bakr, and ʿUmar all passed away at the age of sixty-three.”
