This report is found in the Ṣaḥīḥ (1), and it indicates that the Prophet’s passing occurred after the sun had crossed the meridian. Allah knows best.
Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān (2) narrated—through ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Bakkār from Muḥammad ibn Shuʿayb, and through Ṣafwān from ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-Wāḥid, both from al-Awzāʿī—that he said: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) passed away on a Monday, before midday.”
Al-Bayhaqī (3) said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Kāmil (4) informed us; al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Bazzār told us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlā told us; al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān related to us from his father—Sulaymān ibn Ṭarḥān al-Taymī—in his book al-Maghāzī, that:
“The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) fell ill when twenty-two nights of Ṣafar had passed. His illness began while he was with a bond-woman of his named Rayḥānah, who had been taken from the Jewish captives. The first day of his sickness was a Saturday (5), and he died on a Monday, two nights having elapsed of Rabīʿ al-Awwal, completing ten full years since his arrival in Madinah.”
Al-Wāqidī (6) reported: Abū Maʿshar narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Qays, who said: “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) began to suffer on Wednesday, when eleven nights remained of Ṣafar in the eleventh year, in the house of Zaynab bint Jaḥsh, with severe pain. All of his wives gathered around him. He was ill for thirteen days and passed away on Monday, two nights having elapsed of Rabīʿ al-Awwal in the year eleven.”
Al-Wāqidī also said: “They maintain that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) first fell ill on Wednesday when two nights remained of Ṣafar and that he died on Monday when twelve nights had passed of Rabīʿ al-Awwal. This is the view affirmed by his scribe Muḥammad ibn Saʿd, who added that he was buried on Tuesday.”
Al-Wāqidī (9) further related: “Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Abyad narrated to me, from al-Maqburī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Rāfiʿ, from Umm Salama, that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) first became ill in the house of Maymūnah.”
Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān (2) likewise narrated: “Aḥmad ibn Yūnus told us; Abū Maʿshar narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Qays, who said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) was ill for thirteen days. Whenever he felt some relief he would lead the prayer, and when his condition worsened Abū Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) led the prayer.’”
