Al-Bidayah wa an-NihayahIbn Kathir

They said, “Noah, you have argued with us and argued at length, so bring us what you threaten us with, if you are truly one of the truthful.” (32)
He answered, “Only Allah will bring it to you, if He so wills, and you can in no way frustrate Him. (33)
My counsel will not benefit you—no matter how much I wish to advise you—if Allah intends to let you go astray. He is your Lord, and to Him you will be returned.” (34)
Or do they say, “He has invented it”? Say, “If I have fabricated it, then my crime is upon me, but I am innocent of the crimes you commit.” (35)
It was revealed to Noah: “None of your people will believe except those who have already believed, so do not grieve over what they do. (36)
Build the Ark under Our watchful eye and by Our revelation, and do not plead with Me concerning those who have done wrong—they shall surely be drowned.” (37)
He began constructing the Ark, and every time the leaders of his people passed by him they mocked him. He said, “If you are mocking us, we in turn will mock you just as you mock. (38)
You will soon know who will be visited by a punishment that will disgrace him, and upon whom an everlasting punishment will descend.” (39)
When Our command came and the furnace overflowed, We said, “Load into it a pair of every kind, along with your family—except those against whom the word has already gone forth—and whoever has believed.” Yet none believed with him except a few. (40)
He said, “Embark in it; in the name of Allah be its sailing and its anchoring. Truly my Lord is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (41)
And it sailed with them through waves like mountains. Noah called out to his son, who kept apart, “My son, embark with us and do not be with the disbelievers.” (42)
He replied, “I will take refuge on a mountain that will protect me from the water.” He said, “None can protect today from Allah’s command except those on whom He has mercy.” A wave came between them, and he was among the drowned. (43)
Then it was said, “Earth, swallow up your water, and sky, cease!” The water subsided, the command was fulfilled, and the Ark came to rest upon al-Jūdī. And it was said, “Away with the wrongdoing people.” (44)
Noah called to his Lord and said, “My Lord, my son is indeed of my family, and Your promise is surely true, and You are the most just of judges.” (45)
He said, “Noah, he is not of your family; his conduct was unrighteous. So do not ask Me about that of which you have no knowledge. I admonish you lest you become one of the ignorant.” (46)
He said, “My Lord, I seek refuge with You from asking You about that of which I have no knowledge. If You do not forgive me and have mercy on me, I shall be among the losers.” (47)
It was said, “Noah, disembark in peace from Us, with blessings upon you and upon communities springing from those who are with you. As for other communities, We shall grant them enjoyment for a while, then a painful punishment from Us will afflict them.” (48)
These are reports of the unseen which We reveal to you; neither you nor your people knew them before this. So be patient: the outcome is surely for the God-fearing. (49)

And Allah, exalted is He, says in Sūrat al-Anbiyāʾ:
“When Noah cried out to Us aforetime, We answered him, saved him and his family from the great anguish, (76) and supported him against the people who denied Our signs. They were indeed an evil people, so We drowned them all.” (77)

And He, exalted is He, says in Sūrat al-Muʾminūn:
“Indeed We sent Noah to his people, and he said, ‘My people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Will you not then be mindful?’ (23)
But the chiefs of the disbelievers among his people said, ‘This is only a man like yourselves who wishes to exalt himself above you. Had Allah willed, He would have sent down angels. We have never heard of this among our forefathers. (24)
He is but a man possessed; so wait concerning him for a while.’ (25)
Noah said, ‘My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me.’ (26)
We revealed to him: ‘Build the Ark under Our eyes and by Our revelation. When Our command comes and the furnace overflows, place on board a pair of every kind, and your family—except those against whom the decree has already been passed—and do not plead with Me concerning those who have done wrong; they shall surely be drowned. (27)
When you and those with you are settled in the Ark, say, “Praise be to Allah who has delivered us from the wrongdoing people.” (28)
And say, “My Lord, grant me a blessed landing; You are the best of those who grant safe landings.”’ (29)
Surely in that are signs, and We were indeed putting [people] to the test.” (30)

And He, exalted is He, says in Sūrat al-Shuʿarāʾ:
“The people of Noah rejected the messengers (105) when their brother Noah said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful? (106) I am truly a trustworthy Messenger to you, (107) so fear Allah and obey me. (108) I ask you for no reward; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds. (109) So fear Allah and obey me.’ (110)
They said, ‘Shall we believe in you while the lowest of the people follow you?’ (111)
He said, ‘I have no knowledge of what they may have been doing; (112) their reckoning is only upon my Lord—if you but knew. (113) I am not about to drive away the believers; (114) I am only a clear warner.’ (115)
They said, ‘Noah, if you do not desist, you will surely be stoned.’ (116)
He said, ‘My Lord, my people have rejected me, (117) so decide between me—” (118)
