Al-Bukhārī (1) also said: “Ibn Abī al-Zinād narrated it from Hishām, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, from the Prophet ﷺ.” Muslim (1) records the same report through Ibn Wahb, from Yūnus ibn Yazīd al-Aylī, from al-Zuhrī.
It is likewise authentically found in the two Ṣaḥīḥs (2) through the narration of Abū ʿAwānah, from Firās, from al-Shaʿbī, from Masrūq, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“All the wives of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered around him—none was absent. Then Fāṭimah arrived, walking with a gait identical to her father’s. He said, ‘Welcome, my daughter,’ and seated her at his right—or at his left. He then spoke to her privately and she wept; he spoke to her again and she laughed. I said to her, ‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ confides in you alone and yet you weep!’
“When he rose, I asked her, ‘Tell me what he whispered to you.’ She replied, ‘I would never divulge the secret of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’
“After he passed away I said to her, ‘I plead with you, by the right I have over you, to tell me.’ She answered, ‘Now I will. First he told me: “Gabriel used to review the Qur’an with me once every year, but this year he has reviewed it with me twice, and I see nothing in that except a sign that my time is near. So fear Allah and be patient, for what an excellent predecessor I am for you.” I wept at that. Then he whispered to me again and said: “Are you not pleased to be the leader of the women of the believers—or the leader of the women of this ummah?” and I laughed.’ This incident is transmitted from ʿĀʾishah through several chains (10).
Al-Bukhārī (11) also relates—through ʿAlī ibn ʿAbd Allāh, as well as al-Falās and Musaddad (12); and Muslim through Muḥammad ibn Ḥātim—all of them (13) from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Mūsā ibn Abī ʿĀʾishah, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from ʿĀʾishah—who said:
“We poured medicine into the mouth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during his illness, but he kept signaling to us not to do so. We said, ‘The sick person simply dislikes medicine.’ When he regained consciousness he said, ‘Did I not forbid you from giving me that medicine?’ We replied, ‘We thought it was only the patient’s dislike for medicine.’ He said, ‘Let no one in this house escape being dosed with it while I am watching—except al-ʿAbbās, for he was not present with you.’”
