He performed four ʿumras: the ʿumrah of al-Hudaybiyah, the compensatory ʿumrah, the ʿumrah of al-Jiʿrānah, and the ʿumrah that accompanied the Farewell Pilgrimage.
As for the military campaigns, al-Bukhārī (1) relates—through Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl, from Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd, from Salamah ibn al-Akwāʿ—who said:
“I campaigned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in seven campaigns, and with Zayd ibn Ḥārithah in nine campaigns during which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed him as our commander.”
In the two Ṣaḥīḥs (2) there is a narration from Qutaybah, from Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl, from Yazīd (3), from Salamah, who said:
“I campaigned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in seven campaigns, and in the expeditions he dispatched I joined nine; once Abū Bakr was our commander, and once Usāmah ibn Zayd.”
In Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī (4), through Isrāʾīl, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barrāʾ, it is narrated:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ waged fifteen campaigns.”
In the two Ṣaḥīḥs (5), from Shuʿbah, from Abū Isḥāq, from Zayd ibn Arqam (6), it is reported that:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ undertook nineteen campaigns, of which I was present at seventeen; the first of these was al-ʿUshayr—or al-ʿUsayr.”
Muslim (7) reports—through Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, Muʿtamir, Kahmas ibn al-Ḥasan, and Ibn Buraydah, from his father—that:
“He campaigned alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in sixteen campaigns.”
In another narration recorded by Muslim, via al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah, from his father, it states:
“He campaigned with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in nineteen campaigns, fighting in eight of them.”
A further report on his authority with this chain (8) adds:
“He dispatched twenty-four detachments; he fought at Badr, Uḥud, al-Aḥzāb, al-Muraysīʿ, [Qudayd], Khaybar, Mecca, and Ḥunayn.”
Muslim (9) likewise records—through Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir—that:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ undertook twenty-one campaigns. I joined him in nineteen of them. I was absent from Badr and Uḥud because my father prevented me, but after he was killed at Uḥud I never missed a single campaign he led.”
