Ubayd Allah (1) on al-Muḥaṣṣab (2):
Ubayd Allah narrated to us from Nāfiʿ, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, ʿUmar, and Ibn ʿUmar all encamped there.”
Nāfiʿ also said that Ibn ʿUmar would perform the ẓuhr and ʿaṣr prayers there—meaning at al-Muḥaṣṣab—and, as far as I recall, the maghrib as well.
Khālid added, “I have no doubt that he also prayed ʿishāʾ.”
Afterwards he would sleep for a short while, and he attributed this practice to the Prophet ﷺ.
Imām Aḥmad (3) said: Nūḥ ibn Maymūn related to us; ʿAbd Allah informed us, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān encamped at al-Muḥaṣṣab. I found it worded thus in the Musnad of Imām Aḥmad, in the narration of ʿAbd Allah al-ʿUmari from Nāfiʿ.
Al-Tirmidhī (4) transmitted this ḥadīth through Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr, and Ibn Mājah (5) recorded it through Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā; both chains go back to ʿAbd al-Razzāq, from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān used to encamp at al-Abṭaḥ.”
Al-Tirmidhī commented: “There are also reports on this topic from ʿĀʾishah, Abū Rāfiʿ, and Ibn ʿAbbās. The ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar is ḥasan gharīb; we know it only through the narration of ʿAbd al-Razzāq from ʿUbayd Allah ibn ʿUmar.”
Muslim (7) likewise related it through Muḥammad ibn Mihrān al-Rāzī, from ʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Maʿmar, from Ayyūb, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar: that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abū Bakr, and ʿUmar would encamp at al-Abṭaḥ.
Muslim (8) also transmitted—through Ṣakhr ibn Juwayriyah, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar—that Ibn ʿUmar considered al-taḥṣīb a Sunnah (9) and would offer the ẓuhr prayer on the Day of Departure at al-Ḥaṣbah. Nāfiʿ said, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stayed at al-Ḥaṣbah, and so did the caliphs after him.”
Imām Aḥmad (10) further reported: Yūnus narrated to us; Ḥammād—meaning Ibn Salamah—narrated to us, from Ayyūb and Ḥumayd, from Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allah, from Ibn ʿUmar: that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the ẓuhr, ʿaṣr, maghrib, and ʿishāʾ prayers at al-Baṭḥāʾ, then slept briefly, after which he entered Mecca and circumambulated the House.
Aḥmad (11) likewise transmitted it through ʿAffān, from Ḥammād, from Ḥumayd, from Bakr, from Ibn ʿUmar, mentioning the same report and adding
