After that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encamped at Minā in the very spot where the mosque stands today, according to what is reported. He lodged the Emigrants on his right, the Helpers on his left, and the rest of the people spread out around them.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī said (1): Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ related to us; ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUqbah al-Shaybānī of Kūfah narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Zuhri narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Mūsā informed us; Israel reported from Ibrāhīm ibn al-Muhājir, from Yūsuf ibn Māhak, from Umm Musaykah, from ʿĀʾishah—may Allah be pleased with her—who said (2):
“It was said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, shall we not construct for you at Minā a shelter to give you shade?’ He replied, ‘No. Minā is the resting place of whoever gets there first.’”
This chain is acceptable, though the report is not found in the Musnad nor in the Six Books through this route.
Abū Dāwūd said (3): Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Khlād al-Bāhilī narrated to us; Yaḥyā narrated to us; from Ibn Jurayj, who said: Ḥarīz—or Abū Ḥarīz, Yaḥyā was uncertain—told me that he heard ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Farrūkh ask Ibn ʿUmar:
“We conduct transactions with other people’s money; one of us may arrive in Mecca and spend the night watching over the funds. What should he do?”
Ibn ʿUmar answered, “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent the night in Minā and remained there.” This narration is unique to Abū Dāwūd.
Abū Dāwūd further said (7): ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us; Ibn Numayr and Abū Usāmah narrated to us; from ʿUbayd Allāh, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar:
“Al-ʿAbbās sought permission from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to spend the nights of Minā in Mecca because of his responsibility for providing water to the pilgrims, and he granted him permission.”
Al-Bukhārī (8) and Muslim (9) also recorded it through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr. Al-Bukhārī added the name Abū Ḍamrah Anas ibn ʿIyāḍ, and Muslim added Abū Usāmah Ḥammād ibn Usāmah. Al-Bukhārī further cited it in suspended form (10) from Abū Usāmah and ʿUqbah ibn Khālid, all of them transmitting from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar.
The Prophet ﷺ used to lead his Companions in a two-rakʿah prayer at Minā, as is soundly established in the two Ṣaḥīḥs (11) from the narrations of Ibn Masʿūd and Ḥārithah ibn Wahb—may Allah be pleased with them. For this reason
