Al-Ḥuṣayn relates—on the authority of his grandmother—that she heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, during the Farewell Pilgrimage, pray three times for those who shaved their heads and once for those who merely trimmed.
Wakīʿ, however, did not mention the phrase “during the Farewell Pilgrimage.”
Muslim (1) likewise transmits this ḥadīth through the isnād of Mālik and ʿUbayd Allāh (2) from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar; through ʿUmārah from Abū Zurʿah, from Abū Hurayrah; and through al-ʿAlāʾ b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father, from Abū Hurayrah (3).
Muslim (4) also reports: “Yahyā b. Yahyā narrated to us; Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth narrated to us, from Hishām, from Ibn Sīrīn, from Anas b. Mālik, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Minā, proceeded to the Jamrah and pelted it, then went to his lodging at Minā and sacrificed. He then said to the barber, ‘Take,’ pointing first to his right side, then to his left, and he began handing the hair to the people.
In another wording (5) he shaved the right side of his head, distributing it among the people, a hair or two at a time, and gave the left side to Abū Talḥah. In yet another narration (6) he gave the right side to Abū Talḥah, kept the left for himself, and instructed him to divide it among the people.
Imām Aḥmad (7) said: “Sulaymān b. Ḥarb narrated to us; Sulaymān b. al-Mughīrah narrated to us, from Thābit, from Anas, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while the barber was shaving him and his Companions had surrounded him, not wanting a single hair to fall except into the hand of one of them.” Aḥmad alone records this report.

Thereafter he ﷺ put on his clothes and applied perfume after he had stoned the Jamrah of al-ʿAqabah and slaughtered his sacrificial animal, but before he circumambulated the House. ʿĀʾishah, Mother of the Believers, was the one who perfumed him.
Al-Bukhārī (9) said: “ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Madīnī narrated to us; Sufyān—meaning Ibn ʿUyaynah—narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Qāsim b. Muḥammad, the foremost man of his time, related that he heard his father—also the foremost man of his time—say that he heard ʿĀʾishah declare: ‘I perfumed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with these very two hands when he entered the state of iḥrām, and again when he exited from it before he circumambulated,’ and she spread out her hands.”
Muslim (10) said: “Yaʿqūb al-Dawraqī and Aḥmad b. Manīʿ narrated to us; Hushaym narrated to us, informing us from Manṣūr, from …”
