Ibn ʿUmar would stone the Jamrah of al-ʿAqabah while mounted on his beast on the Day of Sacrifice, but he approached the other Jamrahs only on foot thereafter. He maintained that the Prophet ﷺ would go to them—and return from them—only on foot. Abū Dāwūd (1) transmits this report through al-Qaʿnabī from ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿUmārī.

Jābir said: The Prophet then went to the place of slaughter and sacrificed sixty-three animals with his own hand. He then handed the knife to ʿAlī, who slaughtered the remainder, and he included him in his offering. Afterwards he ordered that a piece be taken from every animal; the pieces were placed in a pot and cooked, and the two of them ate of the meat and drank of the broth. We shall discuss this ḥadīth in due course.
Imām Aḥmad (2) ibn Ḥanbal said: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us; Maʿmar informed us, from Ḥumayd al-Aʿraj, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Maʿādh, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“The Prophet ﷺ addressed the people at Minā and allotted them their places. He said, ‘Let the Emigrants camp here,’ pointing to the right side of the qiblah, ‘and the Helpers here,’ pointing to its left side. ‘Then let the rest of the people encamp around them.’
“He taught them their rites, and the ears of the people of Minā were opened so that they heard him in their dwellings. I heard him say, ‘Stone the Jamrah with pebbles the size of the pebbles used in a slingshot.’”
Abū Dāwūd (4) likewise narrates it from Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal up to the words, “then let the people encamp around them.”
Imām Aḥmad (5) also reports it through ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith from his father; Abū Dāwūd transmits it through Musaddad from ʿAbd al-Wārith; and Ibn Mājah records it in the isnād of Ibn al-Mubārak, from ʿAbd al-Wārith, from Ḥumayd ibn Qays al-Aʿraj, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Maʿādh al-Taymī, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ addressed us while we were at Minā, and our ears were opened so that it was as though (6) we heard everything he said …” and so on.
Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh relates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ included ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib in the sacrificial offering, that the animals brought by ʿAlī from Yemen together with those brought by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ totaled one hundred camels, and that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ personally slaughtered sixty-three of them with his blessed hand.
Ibn Ḥibbān and others (7) remarked: This number corresponded to his age—may peace and blessings be upon him—for he lived sixty-three years.
