ʿAbd Allāh reports: “I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stone the Jamrah while riding on the Day of Sacrifice, saying, ‘Take your rites from me, for I do not know—perhaps I shall not perform Ḥajj after this one.’
Muslim likewise narrates—through Zayd ibn Abī Unaysah, from Yaḥyā ibn al-Ḥuṣayn, from his grandmother Umm al-Ḥuṣayn—that she said: “I performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I saw him when he cast the pebbles at the Jamrah of al-ʿAqabah, then depart while still on his mount on the Day of Sacrifice, saying, ‘Take your rites from me, for I do not know—perhaps I will not perform Ḥajj after this one.’”
In another wording she recounts: “I performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and saw Usāmah and Bilāl—one holding the reins of the Prophet’s camel, the other lifting his cloak to shade him from the heat—until he had thrown at the Jamrah of al-ʿAqabah.”
Imām Aḥmad relates, through Abū Aḥmad Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Zubayrī, from Ayman ibn Nābil, from Qudāmah ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Kilābī, that he saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stone the Jamrah of al-ʿAqabah from the middle of the valley on the Day of Sacrifice while riding a light-reddish camel. He struck no one, drove no one away, and did not call out, “Make way, make way.”
Aḥmad also transmits the same report through Wakīʿ, Muʿtamar ibn Sulaymān, and Abū Qurrah Mūsā ibn Ṭāriq al-Zubaydī, all from Ayman ibn Nābil; and again through Abū Qurrah, from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Ayman. Al-Nasāʾī and Ibn Mājah record it via Wakīʿ, while al-Tirmidhī cites it through Aḥmad ibn Manīʿ, from Marwān ibn Muʿāwiyah, from Ayman ibn Nābil, declaring it “ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.”
Imām Aḥmad further says: “Nūḥ ibn Maymūn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh—meaning al-ʿUmārī—narrated to us, from Nāfiʿ, who said: ‘He used to …’”
