Maqsam relates, on the authority of Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left Muzdalifah before the sun had risen.
Al-Bukhārī reports: Zuhayr ibn Ḥarb narrated to us; Wahb ibn Jarīr narrated to us; my father narrated to me, from Yūnus al-Aylī, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from Ibn ʿAbbās: Usāmah rode pillion behind the Prophet ﷺ from ʿArafah to Muzdalifah, after which al-Faḍl rode behind him from Muzdalifah to Minā. Both of them said, “The Prophet ﷺ continued to proclaim the talbiyah until he cast the stones at Jamrat al-ʿAqabah.” Ibn Jurayj has transmitted the same report from ʿAṭāʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbās.
Muslim likewise records it through al-Layth ibn Saʿd, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Abū Maʿbad, from Ibn ʿAbbās (and in another wording from al-Faḍl ibn ʿAbbās). The latter, who was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, recounted that on the evening of ʿArafah and the morning at Jamʿ, as the people set off, the Prophet said, “Proceed with calm.” He held back his camel until he entered Muhassir—a place within Minā—where he instructed, “Gather the small pebbles with which the jamrah is pelted.” (He also affirmed: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept up the talbiyah until he stoned the jamrah.”)
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī, in the chapter “Quickening the Pace in the Valley of Muhassir,” says: Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us; Abū ʿAmr al-Muqriʾ and Abū Bakr al-Warrāq informed me, saying: al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān told us; Hishām ibn ʿAmmār and Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah told us; they said: Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, from his father, from Jābir concerning the Prophet’s pilgrimage. He said, “When the Prophet ﷺ reached Muhassir he urged his mount a little.” Muslim includes this ḥadīth in his Ṣaḥīḥ through Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah.
Al-Bayhaqī also transmits, through Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Jābir, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out in a composed manner and commanded the people to remain composed; yet, in the Valley of Muhassir he quickened his pace. He instructed them to stone the jamarāt with pebbles the size of chick-peas and said, ‘Learn your rites from me, for I may not see you after this year.’”
He further narrates, through al-Thawrī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith, from Zayd ibn ʿAlī, from his father
