Ibn ʿAbbās reported:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us—young lads of the Banū ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib—ahead on our reddish mounts. He began patting our thighs with his hand, saying, ‘My sons, do not stone the Jamrah until the sun has risen.’”
(Ibn ʿAbbās added, “I do not think anyone of us cast the pebbles before sunrise.”)
Imām Aḥmad likewise transmitted the ḥadīth through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī from Sufyān al-Thawrī … and mentioned it in full. Abū Dāwūd narrated it from Muḥammad ibn Kathīr, from al-Thawrī, and al-Nasāʾī from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd, from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, from Sufyān al-Thawrī. Ibn Mājah also recorded it through Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad, both from Wakīʿ, from Masʿar and Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl.
Aḥmad said: Yaḥyā ibn Ādam related to us; Abū al-Aḥwaṣ narrated from al-Aʿmash, from al-Ḥakam ibn ʿUtaybah, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us on the Night of Sacrifice while the darkness still lingered. He began tapping our thighs, saying, ‘My sons, move on, but do not stone the Jamrah until the sun has risen.’”
The Imām—Aḥmad—also narrated it through al-Masʿūdī, from al-Ḥakam, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent the weak members of his household ahead from Muzdalifah during the night and kept advising them not to stone Jamrat al-ʿAqabah until the sun had risen.”
Abū Dāwūd reported: ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah told us; al-Walīd ibn ʿUqbah told us; Ḥamzah al-Zayyāt narrated from Ḥabīb, from ʿAṭāʾ, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to send the weaker members of his household ahead in the pre-dawn darkness and instruct them—not to stone the Jamrah until the sun had risen.”
Al-Nasāʾī transmitted the same through Maḥmūd ibn Ghīlān, from Bishr ibn al-Sarī, from Sufyān
