and Allah has destroyed them. He then added, “It is an act the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed, and we do not wish to abandon it.” This indicates that the touching of the Corner came after his remark.
Al-Bukhārī also said: “Aḥmad ibn Sinān narrated to us, Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, Warqāʾ narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, who said: I saw ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb kiss the Stone and say, ‘Had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would never have kissed you.’”
Muslim ibn al-Ḥajjāj recorded: Ḥarmalah narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, and Yūnus—i.e., Ibn Yazīd al-Aylī—and ʿAmr—i.e., Ibn Dīnār—informed me. He also said: Hārūn ibn Saʿīd al-Aylī narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, ʿAmr related to me, from Ibn Shihāb, from Sālim, that his father told him: ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb kissed the Stone and then said, “By Allah, I know that you are only a stone; were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would not have kissed you.” Hārūn added in his version: ʿAmr said, “Zayd ibn Aslam also related the same to me from his father Aslam—meaning, from ʿUmar.” This clearly shows that the kiss preceded the statement; Allah knows best.
Imām Aḥmad said: “ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, that ʿUmar kissed the Stone and then said, ‘I know full well that you are only a stone; had I not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you, I would never have kissed you.’” Thus Imām Aḥmad transmitted it.
Muslim likewise included it in his Ṣaḥīḥ through Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr al-Muqaddamī, from Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from Ayyūb, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar: that ʿUmar kissed the Stone and said, “I do kiss you, and I know that you are only a stone, but I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss you.”
Muslim then said: “Khalf ibn Hishām, al-Muqaddamī, Abū Kāmil, and Qutaybah—all of them from Ḥammād—narrated to us,” and he said
