at Zamzam, and said,
“Draw, O sons of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib! Were it not that other people might seize upon your task of providing water, I would draw it with you myself.”
They handed him a bucket, and he drank from it.
Muslim likewise recorded the ḥadīth—through ʿUmar ibn Ḥafṣ, from his father, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, from his father, from Jābir—with wording to the same effect. In that narration he also mentioned the episode of Abū Sayyārah, who in the Days of Ignorance used to lead the pilgrims onward while riding a bareback donkey, and that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I have sacrificed here, and the whole of Minā is a place of sacrifice, so offer your sacrifices in your encampments. I have stood here, and the whole of ʿArafah is a place of standing; and I have stood here, and the whole of Jamʿ (Muzdalifah) is a place of standing.”
Abū Dāwūd also narrated the tradition in full through al-Nufaylī, ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār, and Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān—each of them reporting from Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl, from Jaʿfar—with some of them adding a word or phrase beyond the others, though the substance agrees with Muslim’s version; we have signaled certain of those additional phrases. Abū Dāwūd likewise transmitted it, as did al-Nasāʾī, through Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, from Jaʿfar. Al-Nasāʾī further reported portions of it via Muḥammad ibn al-Muthannā from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, and via Ibrāhīm ibn Hārūn al-Balkhī from Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl.
Mention of the locations where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed while traveling from Madinah to Mecca during his ʿumrah and his ḥajj
Al-Bukhārī, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
“Chapter: The mosques that lie along the roads leading out of Madinah, and the places in which the Prophet ﷺ prayed.”
