The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rode on until he reached the place of standing. He positioned the body of his she-camel al-Qaṣwāʾ toward the rocks, keeping Mount al-Mashāt before him, and faced the qiblah, remaining there until the sun had set, the golden glow had faded, and the disk had disappeared. Usāmah ibn Zayd was seated behind him.
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set off, he drew al-Qaṣwāʾ’s rein so tight that her head was almost touching the front of the saddle. Gesturing with his right hand he kept saying, “O people, calmness, calmness.” Whenever he came upon a rise he would loosen the rein a little so she could ascend. He continued in this manner until he reached Muzdalifah, where he performed the Maghrib and ʿIshāʾ prayers with one adhān and two iqāmahs, offering no prayer between them.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then lay down until daybreak. When dawn had become clear he prayed the Fajr prayer with an adhān and an iqāmah. He next mounted al-Qaṣwāʾ and rode to al-Mashʿar al-Ḥarām, faced the qiblah, and made supplication, praising Allah, magnifying Him, proclaiming His transcendence, and affirming His oneness. He remained standing until the light had grown very bright, then departed before sunrise, taking al-Faḍl ibn al-ʿAbbās as his pillion rider. Al-Faḍl was a fair-skinned, handsome man with fine hair.
As the Messenger of Allah ﷺ moved on, some women riding swiftly passed by and al-Faḍl began to look at them. The Prophet ﷺ placed his hand over al-Faḍl’s face; when al-Faḍl turned his head to the other side, the Prophet ﷺ moved his hand to that side, turning his gaze away. When he reached the valley of Muḥassir he quickened the pace a little, then took the middle route that leads to the major jamrah. He came to the jamrah beside the tree and stoned it with seven pebbles, pronouncing the takbīr with each throw—pebbles no larger than chick-peas—casting them from the bottom of the valley.
He then proceeded to the place of slaughter and sacrificed sixty-three camels with his own hand. He handed the knife to ʿAlī, who completed what remained, and the Prophet ﷺ made him a partner in his offering. He ordered that a piece be taken from every camel, placed in a pot, and cooked. He and ʿAlī ate from the meat and drank from the broth.
After that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mounted and went on to the House, where he performed the ẓuhr prayer in Mecca. He then came to the sons of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib while they were drawing water
