And Qabīṣah transmitted it from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Labīd, from al-Muṭṭalib, from (1) Khallād ibn al-Sāʾib, from his father, from Zayd ibn Khālid, with the same wording.
Imām Aḥmad (2) also said: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abī Bakr ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām, from Khallād ibn al-Sāʾib ibn Khallād, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“Gabriel (3) came to me and said, ‘Command your Companions to raise their voices when proclaiming the talbiyah.’”
Aḥmad (4) likewise said: I read before ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī a report from Mālik (5); and Rawḥ narrated to us, saying, “Mālik—meaning Ibn Anas—narrated to us,” from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn Ḥazm, from ʿAbd al-Malik (6) ibn Abī Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām, from Khallād ibn al-Sāʾib al-Anṣārī, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Gabriel (7) came to me and ordered me to instruct my Companions—or those with me—to raise their voices with the talbiyah or with the proclamation of ihrām,” meaning either one.
Al-Shāfiʿī (8) reported it from Mālik in the same form, and Abū Dāwūd (9) narrated it from al-Qaʿnabī on the authority of Mālik as well.
Imām Aḥmad (10) also related it through Ibn Jurayj, while al-Tirmidhī (11), al-Nasaʾī (12), and Ibn Mājah (13) transmitted it via Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr.
Al-Tirmidhī said, “This ḥadīth is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ.” Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī (14) added, “It was also narrated by Ibn Jurayj. He said, ‘ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr wrote to me …,’” and he mentioned the report but did not cite Abū Khallād in the chain. He then said, “The sound version is that of Mālik and Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah: from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Bakr, from ʿAbd al-Malik, from Khallād ibn al-Sāʾib, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ.” Al-Bukhārī and others concurred, and so he stated.
