She then proclaimed:
"Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk; labbayk lā sharīka laka labbayk; inna’l-ḥamda wa’n-niʿmata laka wa’l-mulk, lā sharīka lak."
In this particular narration alone the extra phrase appears:
"…and sovereignty—You have no partner."
Al-Bayhaqī (1) said: al-Ḥākim related to us; al-Aṣamm informed us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥakam (2) narrated to us; Ibn Wahb reported to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Salamah told me that ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Faḍl related to him, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Aʿraj, from Abū Hurayrah, who said:
Among the talbiyahs of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was:
"Labbayka Ilāha’l-Ḥaqq—Here I am, O True God!"
Al-Nasāʾī (3) transmitted it through Qutaybah → Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān → ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Salamah; and Ibn Mājah (4) through Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and ʿAlī ibn Muḥammad, both from Wakīʿ → ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz with the same wording. Al-Nasāʾī (5) remarked, “I know of no one who has connected it via ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Faḍl except ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz,” while Ismāʿīl ibn Umayyah narrated it in mursal form (6).
Al-Shāfiʿī (7) said: Sʿīd ibn Sālim al-Qaddāḥ (8) reported to us, from Ibn Jurayj, who said: Ḥumayd al-Aʿraj informed me, from Mujāhid, who stated:
The Prophet ﷺ would make audible part of his talbiyah—“Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk,” and the rest of the formula—until, on one occasion, when the people were moving away from him and he seemed pleased with the state he was in, he added:
"Labbayka, indeed the real life is the life of the Hereafter."
Ibn Jurayj said, “I think that was on the Day of ʿArafah.” This is a mursal report through this chain.
The ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī (11) also said: ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ told us; Abū Aḥmad Yūsuf ibn Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf informed me; Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq ibn Khuzaymah narrated to us; Naṣr ibn ʿAlī al-Jahḍamī narrated to us; Maḥbūb ibn al-Ḥasan narrated to us; Dāwūd narrated to us, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delivered a sermon at ʿArafāt and, when he proclaimed:
"Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk,"
he added:
"Truly, the only goodness is the goodness of the Hereafter."
This isnād is unusual. Its transmitters meet the criteria of the Sunan collections, yet the compilers of those works did not include it.
