The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would perform two rakʿahs at Dhū’l-Ḥulayfah, and once his camel had risen with him at the mosque of Dhū’l-Ḥulayfah he would begin the talbiyah with these words.
ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar said: “ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb used to enter the state of ihrām with the very talbiyah of the Prophet ﷺ, saying:
‘Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk; labbayk wa saʿdayk; all goodness is in Your hands; labbayk; toward You is aspiration and deed.’”
This is the wording recorded by Muslim. In Jābir’s ḥadīth (1) the talbiyah appears just as it does in Ibn ʿUmar’s report; it will be cited in full shortly, and Muslim alone relates it.
Al-Bukhārī (2), after presenting the narration through Mālik → Nāfiʿ → Ibn ʿUmar mentioned above, said: “Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from ʿUmārah, from Abū ʿAṭiyyah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
‘I know exactly how the Prophet used to proclaim the talbiyah:
“Labbayka Allāhumma labbayk; labbayk lā sharīka laka labbayk; truly all praise and favor are Yours.”’
This was also corroborated by Abū Muʿāwiyah from al-Aʿmash.
Shuʿbah said: ‘Sulaymān informed us; I heard Khaythamah from Abū ʿAṭiyyah, who said: I heard ʿĀʾishah…’ Al-Bukhārī alone records this chain.
Imām Aḥmad (3) likewise transmitted it through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī → Sufyān al-Thawrī → Sulaymān ibn Mihrān al-Aʿmash → ʿUmārah ibn ʿUmayr → Abū ʿAṭiyyah al-Wādiʿī (4) → ʿĀʾishah, reproducing the very wording found in al-Bukhārī.
He (5)(6) also narrated it through Abū Muʿāwiyah and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr from al-Aʿmash, exactly as al-Bukhārī has it; and he related it as well through Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar and Rūḥ ibn ʿUbādah, from Shuʿbah, from Sulaymān ibn Mihrān al-Aʿmash with the same content (7), precisely as al-Bukhārī reported (8). Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī (9) narrated it in his Musnad through Shuʿbah in identical form.
Imām Aḥmad (10) further said: “Muḥammad ibn Faḍīl narrated to us; al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from ʿUmārah ibn ʿUmayr, from Abū ʿAṭiyyah, who said:
ʿĀʾishah declared, ‘I know exactly how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite the talbiyah.’ He added, ‘Then I heard her herself proclaiming the talbiyah.’”
