with ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr to al-Tanʿīm, where I performed ʿumrah. He then said, “This makes up for the ʿumrah you missed.”
She continued: “Those who had entered iḥrām for ʿumrah circumambulated the House and walked between Ṣafā and Marwah, then came out of iḥrām; after their return from Minā they performed another circumambulation. As for those who combined ḥajj and ʿumrah, they performed only a single circumambulation.”
Likewise, Muslim (1) narrated this through Mālik, from al-Zuhrī … and mentioned it in full. He also transmitted it (3) through ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd, from ʿAbd al-Raz̤z̤āq, from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the year of the Farewell Pilgrimage. I entered iḥrām for ʿumrah, not having brought a sacrificial animal. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, ‘Whoever has a sacrificial animal with him should enter iḥrām for ḥajj along with his ʿumrah, and he is not to exit iḥrām until he has completed them both together’ …” and he quoted the remainder of the report as given earlier.
The purpose of citing this ḥadīth here is the Prophet’s ﷺ statement:
“Whoever has a sacrificial animal with him, let him enter iḥrām for both ḥajj and ʿumrah.”
It is well known that he ﷺ did have sacrificial animals with him, so he was the first and most entitled to implement this directive, for—according to the sound position—the speaker himself is included in the general scope of his own address.
Moreover, she said: “As for those who combined ḥajj and ʿumrah, they performed only one circumambulation,” meaning the saʿy between Ṣafā and Marwah.
Muslim (5) also relates from her (6) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed only one saʿy between Ṣafā and Marwah, from which it is clear that he had combined ḥajj and ʿumrah.
Muslim (7) further narrates—through Ḥammād ibn Zayd, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah—that she said: “The sacrificial animals were with the Prophet ﷺ, with Abū Bakr, with ʿUmar, and with those who could afford them.”
She also mentioned that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not come out of either of the two rites, so he was not performing tamattuʿ, and she noted that she asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to allow her to perform an ʿumrah from al-Tanʿīm.
And she said:
