- Zayd ibn Aslam on Anas’s authority. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bazzār said: “Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Tanūkhī related from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Anas ibn Mālik, that the Prophet ﷺ entered iḥrām for both Hajj and ʿUmrah.” He added: “This was reported to us by al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-Jarawī and Muḥammad ibn Miskīn, who both said: ‘Bishr ibn Bakr narrated to us from Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Anas.’”
I say: This chain is authentic according to the criteria of the Ṣaḥīḥ, yet neither of the two Shaykhs included it through this route.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī also transmitted the report in a fuller version, saying: “Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ and Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan al-Qāḍī informed us; both said: ‘Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us; al-ʿAbbās ibn al-Walīd ibn Mazīd related to us, saying: “My father told me; Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Aslam and others, that a man came to Ibn ʿUmar and asked, ‘With what did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ begin his talbiyah?’ Ibn ʿUmar replied, ‘With Hajj.’ The man left but returned the following year and asked the same question. Ibn ʿUmar said, ‘Did you not ask me last year?’ He answered, ‘Indeed, but Anas ibn Mālik claims that he combined the two.’ Ibn ʿUmar retorted, ‘Anas ibn Mālik used to enter upon women while their heads were uncovered, whereas I was walking beneath the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so close that its saliva touched me, and I heard him proclaiming the talbiyah for Hajj alone.’””
- Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd al-Ghaṭafānī al-Kūfī on Anas’s authority. Imām Aḥmad said: “Yaḥyā ibn Ādam narrated to us; Shurayk narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from Anas ibn Mālik—traced back to the Prophet ﷺ—that he combined Hajj and ʿUmrah, saying, ‘Here I am for an ʿUmrah and a Hajj together.’ The ḥadīth is ḥasan, and the two Shaykhs did not record it.”
Imām Aḥmad also said: “ʿAffān narrated to us; Abū ʿAwana narrated to us; ʿUthmān ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to us, from Sālim ibn …”
