It was also transmitted (1) by Ibn Mājah, through Abū Muṣʿab, from Mālik in the same form.
Al-Nasāʾī likewise narrated it (2) through Qutaybah, from Mālik, from Abū’l-Aswad, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah: that the Messenger of Allah declared his talbiyah for Hajj.
Aḥmad (3) further said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Mālik, from Abū’l-Aswad, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “We set out with the Messenger of Allah. Some of us entered iḥrām for Hajj, some for ʿUmrah, and some for both Hajj and ʿUmrah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered iḥrām for Hajj. Those who had entered iḥrām for ʿUmrah released themselves once they had circumambulated the House and walked between Ṣafā and Marwah; whereas those who had entered iḥrām for Hajj, or for both Hajj and ʿUmrah, did not release themselves until the Day of Sacrifice.”
Al-Bukhārī (4) recorded it in the same manner from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yūsuf, al-Qaʿnabī (5), and Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Uways, all from Mālik; and Muslim (6) from Yaḥyā, from Mālik with this chain.
Aḥmad (7) also said: Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said (8): “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared his talbiyah for Hajj; some people declared theirs for both Hajj and ʿUmrah, and others for ʿUmrah.”
Muslim (9) transmitted it through Ibn Abī ʿUmar, from Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah in similar wording.
As for the ḥadīth about which Imām Aḥmad said (10): “Qutaybah ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, from ʿAlqamah ibn Abī ʿAlqamah, from his mother, from ʿĀʾishah: that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed the people during the Farewell Pilgrimage, saying, ‘Whoever among you wishes to begin with an ʿUmrah before the Hajj, let him do so.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the Hajj alone and did not perform an ʿUmrah.” This ḥadīth is exceedingly unusual; Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal alone relates it, and its chain is acceptable, yet its wording is severely problematic—specifically the phrase “and he did not perform an ʿUmrah.” If the intent is that he did not perform an ʿUmrah along with the Hajj nor before it, then it accords with the view of those who hold that he performed Ifrād. But if the intent is that he did not
