The full narration will be cited later; it is found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (1). The wording reproduced here is that of al-Bayhaqī (2), transmitted through Aḥmad ibn Ḥafṣ ibn ʿAbd Allāh, from his father (3), from Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭahmān, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad.
Chapter: The date of the Prophet’s ﷺ departure from Madinah for the Farewell Pilgrimage, after appointing Abū Dujānah Simāk ibn Kharashah al-Sāʿidī (5)—and, according to another report, Sibāʿ ibn ʿUrfaṭah al-Ghifārī (6)—to govern in his stead.
Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq (7) said: When Dhū al-Qaʿdah of the tenth year arrived, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prepared for ḥajj and ordered the people to do the same. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim related to me, from his father al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad, from ʿĀʾishah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for the pilgrimage five nights before the end of Dhū al-Qaʿdah.”
This chain of transmission is sound.
Imām Mālik (8) also related in his Muwaṭṭaʾ—from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, from ʿAmrah (from ʿĀʾishah; Aḥmad (9) reported it as well, through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, from ʿAmrah) (10)—on her authority. The report is likewise authenticated in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, in the Sunan of al-Nasāʾī, in Ibn Mājah (11), and in the Muṣannaf of Ibn Abī Shaybah, through several chains from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, from ʿAmrah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “We set out with the Messenger of Allah five nights before the end of Dhū al-Qaʿdah, thinking of nothing but the ḥajj …” The full tradition will be presented in due course.
