Al-Ḥākim also reproduced the ḥadīth in his al-Mustadrak (1) through the chain of transmission that includes Abū Nuʿaym al-Faḍl ibn Dukayn, and he declared, “Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim, though the two Shaykhs did not include it.”
Ibn Abī Ḥātim likewise narrated it, on the authority of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Hurayrah, in a marfūʿ report. In that narration it says:
“Then He presented them to Adam and said, ‘O Adam, these are your descendants.’ Among them were the leprous, the vitiliginous, the blind, and people afflicted with all kinds of ailments. Adam said, ‘My Lord, why have You done this to my offspring?’ He replied, ‘So that they may give thanks for My favors.’” (2)
He then mentioned the story of David, which will also be cited later from the narration of Ibn ʿAbbās.
Imām Aḥmad said in his Musnad (3): Haysham ibn Khārijah related to us; Abū al-Rabīʿ related to us, from Yūnus ibn Maysarah, from Abū Idrīs, from Abū al-Dardāʾ, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“When Allah created Adam, He struck his right shoulder and brought forth from it a progeny white as tiny ants, then He struck his left shoulder and brought forth a progeny black as charcoal. He said to those on His right: ‘To Paradise, and I do not mind,’ and to those in His left hand: ‘To the Fire, and I do not mind.’”
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā said (5): Khalf ibn Hishām narrated to us; al-Ḥakam ibn Sinān narrated to us, from Ḥawshab, from al-Ḥasan, who said: “When Allah created Adam He brought forth the people of Paradise from his right side and the people of Hell from his left side. They were cast upon the face of the earth—among them were the blind, the deaf, and those tried with afflictions. Adam said, ‘My Lord, could You not have made my children equal?’ He replied, ‘O Adam, I wished to be thanked.’” ʿAbd al-Razzāq has transmitted the same meaning from Maʿmar, from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan.
Al-Bukhārī also said (6): ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad related to us; ʿAbd al-Razzāq related to us; Maʿmar informed us, from Hammām ibn Munabbih, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said:
“Allah created Adam, and he was sixty cubits tall. He then said, ‘Go and greet that group of angels and listen to how they reply, for that will be your greeting and the greeting of your descendants.’ He went and said, ‘Peace be upon you.’ They replied, ‘Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah,’ adding the words, ‘and the mercy of Allah.’ Everyone who enters Paradise will do so in the form of Adam, but mankind has continued to diminish in stature up to the present day.”
