Delegation of Banū ʿUqayl ibn Kaʿb
Al-Wāqidī relates that they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he assigned them al-ʿAqīq—al-ʿAqīq of Banū ʿUqayl—a tract of land rich in palm-groves and springs. He also wrote a deed for them that read:
“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has granted to Rabīʿ, Muṭarrif, and Anas: he has given them al-ʿAqīq so long as they establish the prayer, pay the zakāh, listen, and obey, and he has not thereby deprived any Muslim of a rightful claim.”
That document remained in the custody of Muṭarrif.
Al-Wāqidī adds that Lakiṭ ibn ʿĀmir ibn al-Muntafiq ibn ʿĀmir ibn ʿUqayl—better known as Abū Razīn—also came to the Prophet. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him a watering-place called al-Naẓīm, accepted his pledge of allegiance on behalf of his people, and we have already given the full account of his arrival and story—praise and thanks belong to Allah.
Delegation of Banū Qushayr ibn Kaʿb
This delegation came before the Farewell Pilgrimage, though some say it was prior to the Battle of Ḥunayn. Among them was Qurrah ibn Hubayrah ibn ʿĀmir ibn Salamah al-Khayr ibn Qushayr. He embraced Islam, whereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ bestowed gifts upon him, clothed him in a mantle, and appointed him to oversee the collection of zakāh from his people. On his return Qurrah composed the following verses:
(Tawīl)
“The Messenger of Allah favored her when she sought him out,
And placed within her reach a bounty that shall never be spent.
She woke to lush meadows after hardship and haste,
Her every need fulfilled at the hand of Muhammad.
Over her stands a youth who bears no burden of blame,
Who quenches the thirst of the helpless and hesitant.”
