Al-Bidayah wa an-NihayahIbn Kathir

I said, “The treasures of Ibn Hormuz?!”

He replied, “Yes—Chosroes son of Hormuz—and wealth will be offered until no one will care to receive it.”

ʿAdiyy ibn Ḥātim continued, “So here is the woman traveler: she sets out from al-Ḥīrah and circumambulates the House with no escort at all. I myself was among those who seized the treasures of Chosroes, and by Him in Whose hand is my soul, the third promise will surely come to pass, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ proclaimed it.”

Aḥmad then said: Yūnus ibn Muḥammad related to us; Ḥammād ibn Zayd related to us, from Ayyūb, from Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn, from Abū ʿUbaydah ibn Ḥudhāfah, from a man. Ḥammād also said: and (the same was narrated) by Hishām, from Muḥammad, from Abū ʿUbaydah—without mentioning “from a man.” He said, “I used to ask people about the report of ʿAdiyy ibn Ḥātim while he was sitting right beside me, yet I did not ask him himself—until I finally went to him and inquired. He said, ‘Yes,’ and then recounted the ḥadīth.”

Al-Ḥāfiẓ Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī said: Abū ʿAmr the littérateur informed us; Abū Bakr al-Ismāʿīlī informed us; al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān reported to us; Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; al-Naḍr ibn Shumayl narrated to us; Isrāʾīl narrated to us; Saʿd al-Ṭāʾī narrated to us; Muḥill ibn Khalīfah narrated to us, from ʿAdiyy ibn Ḥātim, who said:

“I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ when a man came complaining of poverty and another came complaining that the roads were unsafe. The Prophet said, ‘O ʿAdiyy ibn Ḥātim, have you seen al-Ḥīrah?’ I replied, ‘I have not seen it, yet I have been told about it.’ He said, ‘If you live long enough, you will surely see a woman set out from al-Ḥīrah and go all the way to the Kaʿbah, fearing no one but Allah.’ I said to myself, ‘But what of the marauders of Ṭayy who have ravaged the land?’

“He then said, ‘And if you live long enough, the treasures of Chosroes son of Hormuz will be opened up.’ I exclaimed, ‘Chosroes son of Hormuz!’ He answered, ‘Chosroes son of Hormuz.’

“‘And if you live long enough,’ he went on, ‘you will see a man leave his house with a handful of gold or silver, looking for someone to accept it from him, yet he will find no one willing to take it. One of you will meet Allah on the Day he meets Him with no interpreter between them; he will look to his right and see nothing but Hell, and he will look to his left and see nothing but Hell.’

“ I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Shield yourselves from the Fire, even if only with half a date; and if you cannot find even that, then with a kind word.’

“Indeed, I have already seen the woman traveler set out from…’’
