And the Exalted One said:
“O mankind, be mindful of your Lord, who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate, and from the two of them spread many men and women. So fear Allah, in whose name you ask one another, and [honour] the womb-ties. Surely Allah is ever watchful over you.” (al-Nisāʾ 4:1)
He also said:
“O mankind, We have created you from a male and a female and made you peoples and tribes so that you may come to know one another. Verily, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most God-fearing of you. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.” (al-Ḥujurāt 49:13)
And He said:
“He is the One who created you from a single soul and made from it its spouse so that he might find tranquillity in her…” (al-Aʿrāf 7:189, in part)
He further said:
“We certainly created you, then fashioned you; then We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate yourselves before Adam,’ and they all prostrated except Iblīs—he was not among those who prostrated. (11)
He said, ‘What kept you from prostrating when I commanded you?’ He replied, ‘I am better than he; You created me from fire, and You created him from clay.’ (12)
He said, ‘Then descend from it, for it is not for you to act arrogantly therein. Get out; you are indeed among the abased.’ (13)
He said, ‘Grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected.’ (14)
He said, ‘You are of those granted respite.’ (15)
He said, ‘Because You have led me astray, I shall surely lie in ambush for them on Your straight path; (16)
then I will come at them from before them and from behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them grateful.’ (17)
He said, ‘Get out of it, despised and banished. Whoever of them follows you, I will surely fill Hell with you all.’ (18)
And [We said], ‘O Adam, dwell—you and your wife—in the Garden and eat from wherever you wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you both become wrongdoers.’ (19)
Then Satan whispered to them to expose to them what had been hidden of their nakedness, and he said, ‘Your Lord has only forbidden you this tree lest you become angels or become immortals.’ (20)
And he swore to them, ‘Indeed, I am to you a sincere adviser.’ (21)
Thus he led them on by deception; and when they tasted of the tree their nakedness became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves leaves from the Garden. And their Lord called to them, ‘Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you, “Satan is an open enemy to you”?’ (22)
They said, ‘Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.’ (23)
He said, ‘Descend, some of you an enemy to others; for you on the earth will be a dwelling-place and provision for a time.’ (24)
He said, ‘Therein you shall live, therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought forth.’” (al-Aʿrāf 7:11–25)
Likewise He said:
“We certainly created the human being from sounding clay, from molded mud, (26)
and the jinn We created earlier from scorching fire. (27)
[Remember] when your Lord said to the angels, ‘I am creating a human being from sounding clay, from molded mud. (28)
When I have fashioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down in prostration before him.’ (29)
So the angels prostrated—all of them together— (30)
except Iblīs; he refused to be with those who prostrated. (31)
He said, ‘O Iblīs, what is the matter with you that you are not among those who prostrate?’ (32)
He said, ‘I could never prostrate to a human You created from sounding clay, from molded mud.’ (33)
He said, ‘Then get out of here, for you are accursed, (34)
and upon you shall be My curse until the Day of Judgment.’ (35)
He said, ‘My Lord, then grant me respite until the Day they are raised.’ (36)
He said, ‘You are of those granted respite (37)
until the Day of the appointed time.’ (38)
He said, ‘My Lord, because You have lured me away, I will surely make [sin] attractive to them on earth and will mislead all of them, (39)
except, among them, Your devoted servants.’ (40)
He said, ‘This is a path incumbent upon Me, straight. (41)
Indeed, over My servants you will have no authority, except those who follow you of the deviant. (42)
And Hell is surely the promised place for all of them, (43)
having seven gates; for each gate is an allotted portion of them.’” (al-Ḥijr 15:26–44)
And He, the Exalted, said:
“When We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate yourselves before Adam,’ they prostrated, except Iblīs. He said, ‘Shall I prostrate to one You created from clay? (61)
He said, ‘Do You see this one whom You have honoured above me? If You defer me until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize his offspring—save only a few.’ (62)
He said, ‘Go! Whoever of them follows you, then Hell shall be your recompense—an ample recompense. (63)
And incite whoever you can among them with your voice, rally against them your cavalry and infantry, share with them in wealth and children, and promise them—and Satan promises them nothing but delusion. (64)
Surely over My servants you will have no authority; and your Lord is sufficient as a Guardian.’” (al-Isrāʾ 17:61–65)
And He said:
“[Remember] when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate yourselves before Adam,’ and they prostrated, except Iblīs; he was of the jinn and he defied the command of his Lord. Will you then take him…” (al-Kahf 18:50, in part)
