Al-Bukhārī likewise relates (1): Adam narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated from Manṣūr, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “If, when one of you wishes to approach his wife, he says, ‘O Allah, keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from what You grant me,’ then, if a child is born to them, Satan will neither harm him nor gain power over him.”
He added: al-Aʿmash also narrated to us from Sālim, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās with the same wording.
Al-Bukhārī further transmits (2): through Mūsā ibn Ismāʿīl, from Hammām, from Manṣūr, from Sālim, from Kurayb, from Ibn ʿAbbās, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Had one of you, on coming to his wife, said, ‘In the name of Allah. O Allah, keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from what You grant us,’ and they were then granted a child, Satan would not harm him.”
Al-Bukhārī also says (3): Ismāʿīl narrated to us—my brother related from Sulaymān—from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Satan ties three knots at the back of the head of any one of you when he sleeps. Over every knot he taps and says, ‘You have a long night ahead of you—sleep on!’ If he wakes and remembers Allah, one knot is undone; if he performs ablution, a second knot is undone; and if he prays, all the knots are undone, so he rises energetic and in good spirits. Otherwise, he rises sullen and lazy.”
Al-Bukhārī further reports (4): Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah narrated to us; Ibn Abī Ḥāzim related, from Yazīd—meaning Ibn al-Hād—from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm, from ʿĪsā ibn Ṭalḥah, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“When one of you wakes from sleep and performs ablution, let him sniff water into his nose three times, for Satan spends the night upon his nostrils.”
Muslim (5) records this through Bishr ibn al-Ḥakam, from al-Darrāwardī, and al-Nasāʾī (6) through Muḥammad ibn Zanbūr, from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Ḥāzim—both on the authority of Yazīd ibn al-Hād.
Al-Bukhārī also states (7): ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us; Jarīr related, from Manṣūr, from Abū Wāʾil, from ʿAbd Allāh, who said:
A man who had slept through the night until morning was mentioned before the Prophet ﷺ. He remarked, “That is a man in whose ears Satan urinated”—or he said, “in his ear.”
Muslim (8) transmits the same report from ʿUthmān and Isḥāq, both on the authority of Jarīr.
