They shield their lineage and ancestral estate
with gleaming swords that split skulls beneath the helmets.
Ask the sons of Badr, if ever you meet them,
what the brothers wrought on the day of clash and trial.
When you set out, be truthful with those you encounter;

The Expedition against Banu al-Mustaliq of Khuzaʿah
Al-Bukhari said: It is the expedition of al-Muraysiʿ (1).
Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq (2) stated that it occurred in the year 6 AH.
Musā ibn ʿUqbah put it in year 4 AH. Al-Nuʿmān ibn Rāshid, reporting from al-Zuhri, held that the Incident of the Slander took place during the expedition of al-Muraysiʿ. Thus al-Bukhari, transmitting from the Maghāzī of Musā ibn ʿUqbah, recorded it as year 4 AH (3).

Ibn Hishām (7) added: He left Abū Dharr al-Ghifāri in charge of Madinah—though some say it was Numeilah ibn ʿAbd-Allah al-Laythi.
Ibn Isḥāq (8) said: ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUmar ibn Qatādah, ʿAbd-Allah ibn Abī Bakr, and Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Ḥabbān each told me part of the account of Banu al-Mustaliq. They related that news reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that Banu al-Mustaliq were gathering
