Al-Bukhārī narrates (1): ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Shaybah related to us; Ibn Numayr related to us; from Hishām, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah who said:
“When the Prophet ﷺ returned from (the Battle of) the Trench, laid aside his arms, and bathed, Gabriel came to him and said, ‘Have you put down your weapons? By Allah, we have not put ours down yet. Go out against them.’
He asked, ‘Against whom?’
Gabriel replied, ‘Over there,’ and pointed toward Banū Qurayẓah. So the Prophet ﷺ went out to them.”
Ahmad relates (3): Ḥasan narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us; from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had finished with the Confederates, he entered the bathing place to wash. Gabriel came, and I saw him through a crack in the wall, his head wrapped in dust. He said, “O Muḥammad, have you laid aside your weapons?” He replied, “We have laid aside our weapons.” Gabriel said, “We have not laid ours aside yet—rise against Banū Qurayẓah.”
Al-Bukhārī then says (6): Mūsā narrated to us; Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim narrated to us; from Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl, from Anas ibn Mālik who said: “It is as though I can still see the dust billowing in the alley of Banū Ghanm—the escort of Gabriel—when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ marched toward Banū Qurayẓah.”
He also says (7): ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Asmāʾ narrated to us; Juwayriyyah ibn Asmāʾ narrated to us; from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of the Confederates proclaimed, “Let no one perform the afternoon prayer except at Banū Qurayẓah.” Some of them were overtaken by the time of ʿAṣr while still on the road. Some said, “We will not pray ʿAṣr until we arrive there,” whereas others said, “Rather, we shall pray; that was not what he intended.” When this was reported to the Prophet ﷺ he did not censure either party.
Muslim likewise transmits it (8) through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Asmāʾ.
Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Bayhaqī states (9): Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ and Abū Bakr Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥasan the judge both narrated to us, saying: Abū al-ʿAbbās Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Khālid ibn Khalī narrated to us; Bishr ibn Shuʿayb narrated to us, from his father, from al-Zuhrī, who said: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik informed me that his uncle ʿUbayd Allāh informed him that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from pursuing the Confederates, he removed his coat of mail, bathed, and perfumed himself with incense. Then Gabriel suddenly appeared to him, peace be upon him,
