In the days of ʿUmar, of ʿUthmān, and thereafter, Abū Hurayrah would say:
“Advance and conquer whatever lands you wish. By Him in Whose hand is Abū Hurayrah’s soul, no city you have taken—nor any you will take until the Day of Resurrection—was ever opened except that Allah had already placed its keys in the hand of Muḥammad ﷺ.”
This chain, too, is broken in this route, though it is fully connected through other lines of transmission—praise be to Allah.
Imām Aḥmad said: Ḥajjāj narrated to us; al-Layth narrated to us; ʿUqayl ibn Khālid told me, from Ibn Shihāb, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, that Abū Hurayrah said:
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “I was sent with concise speech and aided by awe. While I was asleep, the keys to the treasuries of the earth were brought to me and placed in my hand.”
Al-Bukhārī recorded this report alone through Yaḥyā ibn Bukayr and Saʿīd ibn ʿUfayr, both from al-Layth with the same chain. His wording includes Abū Hurayrah’s remark: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ departed, and you are now gathering them.”
Imām Aḥmad also said: Yazīd narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; from Abū Salamah; from Abū Hurayrah, who reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I was aided by awe, granted succinct speech, and the earth has been made for me a place of worship and purification. While I was asleep, the keys to the treasuries of the earth were brought and placed in my hands.”
This isnād is sound and strong, meeting Muslim’s criteria, though he did not include it.
The two Ṣaḥīḥs contain the statement: “When Caesar dies there will be no Caesar after him; when Chosroes dies there will be no Chosroes after him. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, you shall certainly spend their treasures in the path of Allah.”
And in another authentic ḥadīth: “Allah folded up the earth for me—its east and its west—and the dominion of my community will reach as far as what was folded up for me.”
