[Section]
The total number of Muslims who fought at Badr was three hundred and fourteen men, among them the Messenger of God ﷺ. Al-Bukhārī (6) relates: “ʿAmr ibn Khālid told us, Zuhayr told us, Abū Isḥāq told us: I heard al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib say, ‘The Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ who witnessed Badr informed me that they were the same number as the companions of Ṭālūt who crossed the river with him—slightly more than three hundred.’”
Al-Barāʾ added, “By God, no one crossed the river with him except a believer.”
Al-Bukhārī also transmitted this report through the isnāds of Isrāʾīl and Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-Barāʾ, to similar effect (7).
