To God I offer my praise and thanks, words firm and enduring for all time;
To the Exalted King above whom there is no higher—no god, no lord that can draw near.
O human being, beware ruin, for you can hide nothing from God.
Set up no partner beside Him, for the path of guidance now stands open and clear.
Have mercy! The jinn once placed their hopes elsewhere, yet You are my God, our Lord, our hope.
I am content with You, O God, as Lord; never shall I worship any deity beside You.
It was You—out of bounty and mercy—who sent a herald-messenger to Moses,
Saying: “Go, you and Aaron, and summon Pharaoh, that overweening tyrant, to God.
Say to him:
• Is it you who leveled this earth, set firm without a single stake?
• Is it you who raised this heaven, unsupported—be gentle with yourself, O builder!
• Is it you who placed within its midst a shining light to guide when night enfolds?
• Who sends the sun each morning so that every patch of earth it touches grows bright?
• Who makes the grain sprout in the soil, so that the shoots rise up, fresh and swaying?
• Who brings forth the seed upon its heads? In all this are signs for the mindful.”
And by Your grace You delivered Jonah, who spent many nights in the belly of the great fish.
Though I glorify Your name, my Lord, I can do no more than seek the pardon of my sins.
So, Lord of all servants, shower bounty and mercy upon me, and bless my children and my wealth.
Once this is understood, it follows that the heavenly bodies—both fixed stars and wandering planets—are all created beings from the moment God brought them into existence, just as He said:
“And He revealed in each heaven its command, and We adorned the lowest heaven with lamps and as protection. Such is the decree of the All-Mighty, All-Knowing.” (Fussilat 41:12).
