Habīb(1) and ʿAbd Allāh; this son, Habīb, is the one whom Musaylimah the Arch-Liar(2) killed. He kept asking him, “Do you testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?” and he would answer, “Yes.” Then he would say, “Do you testify that I am the messenger of Allah?” and he would reply, “I do not hear.” Musaylimah thereupon began severing him limb by limb until he died in his hands, doing nothing to him beyond that.
Umm ʿUmārah was among those who marched with the Muslims to al-Yamāmah when Musaylimah was slain, and she returned bearing twelve(3) wounds, from both stabs and blows—may Allah be pleased with her and grant her His good pleasure. The other woman was Umm Manīʿ, Asmāʾ daughter of ʿAmr ibn ʿAdī ibn Nābiʿ ibn ʿAmr ibn Sawād ibn Ghanm ibn Kaʿb ibn Salamah—may Allah be pleased with her.
Chapter: The Beginning of the Emigration from Mecca to Medina
Al-Zuhrī related, on the authority of ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was still in Mecca, he said to the Muslims, “I have been shown your place of emigration; I was shown a salt-flat with date-palms situated between two lava fields.”(4)
So those who were to emigrate set out for Madinah when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned it, and some of the Muslims who had earlier emigrated to Abyssinia returned to Madinah. Al-Bukhārī recorded this report.(5)
Abū Mūsā further narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, “In a dream I saw that I was emigrating from Mecca to a land with date-palms. My thought went to Yamāmah or Hajar, but it turned out to be the city—Yathrib.”(6)
Al-Bukhārī has also transmitted this ḥadīth in full at other places, and so has Muslim, both of them through Abū Kurayb(7); Muslim added the name of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Barrād.(8) Both reports come from Abū Usāmah, from Burayd(9) ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Burdah, from his grandfather Abū Burdah, from Abū Mūsā ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qays al-Ashʿarī, from the Prophet ﷺ, the ḥadīth in its entirety.
