“…after the world has lain in ruin for forty years. The succession of days and nights shall not end before I return to you your shade and your blessing.” He added, “In Allah’s sight it is like a weak, imploring believer.” (1)
Khalīd ibn Daʿlaj reported that Safiyyah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, came to the outskirts of Jerusalem and prayed there. She then ascended Mount Zaytā, prayed upon it, and spent the night on the edge of the mountain. She said, “From this very spot people will be divided on the Day of Resurrection—some to Paradise and others to Hell.” (2)(3)
Section on the Seas and the Rivers
Allah, exalted is He, says:
“He it is who has subjected the sea so that you may eat from it fresh meat and bring forth from it ornaments you wear; and you see the ships ploughing through it, that you may seek of His bounty and perhaps give thanks. He has cast into the earth firmly-set mountains lest it sway with you, and (placed) rivers and paths so that you may find your way, and landmarks—and by the stars they are guided. Is, then, the One who creates like one who does not create? Will you not take heed? If you were to count Allah’s favour, you could never enumerate it. Truly Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (al-Naḥl 14–18)
And He says:
“The two seas are not alike: one is fresh, sweet and pleasant to drink, the other salty and bitter; yet from each you eat fresh meat and draw forth ornaments you wear, and you see the ships cleaving through them so that you may seek His bounty and perhaps give thanks.” (Fāṭir 12)
And He says:
“It is He who has let loose the two seas—one fresh and sweet, the other salty and bitter—and He has set between them a barrier and an impassable partition.” (al-Furqān 53)
And He says:
“He has released the two seas, meeting together; between them is a barrier that they do not overstep.” (al-Raḥmān 19–20)
What is meant by “the two seas” is the salty, briny ocean—the ujāj—and the fresh sea, namely the rivers that course through the lands for the benefit of mankind; so said Ibn Jurayj and many other scholars.
Allah, exalted is He, also says:
“Among His signs are the ships that sail on the sea like mountains. If He wills, He can still the wind and they would remain motionless upon its surface—surely in that are signs for every patient, grateful person—or He can wreck them for what they have earned, yet He pardons much.” (ash-Shūrā 32–34)
And He says:
“Have you not seen that ships sail upon the sea by Allah’s grace so that He may show you some of His signs? Surely in that are signs for every patient, grateful person. When waves like canopies cover them, they call upon Allah, devoting the religion purely to Him. But when He brings them safe to land, some of them remain moderate; yet none rejects Our signs except every perfidious ingrate.” (Luqmān 31–32)
And He says:
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, and the ships that sail upon the sea carrying that which benefits people…”
