He answered, “Muhammad.”
They asked, “Has he been sent for?”
He replied, “Yes.”
They said, “Welcome to him; what an excellent arrival!” The gate was opened, and when I passed through I found Idris.
He said, “This is Idris; greet him.” I greeted him and he returned my greeting, then said, “Welcome, righteous brother and righteous Prophet.”
He then took me up until we came to the fifth heaven and asked for it to be opened.
“Who is this?”
“Gabriel.”
“And who is with you?”
“Muhammad.”
“Has he been sent for?”
“Yes.”
“Welcome to him; what an excellent arrival!” When I entered I met Aaron.
He said, “This is Aaron; greet him.” I greeted him and he returned the greeting, then said, “Welcome, righteous brother and righteous Prophet.”
He ascended with me to the sixth heaven and requested that it be opened.
“Who is this?”
“Gabriel.”
“And who is with you?”
“Muhammad.”
“Has he been sent for?”
“Yes.”
“Welcome to him; what an excellent arrival!” When I went in, there was Moses.
He said, “This is Moses; greet him.” I greeted him and he returned the greeting, then said, “Welcome, righteous brother and righteous Prophet.”
When I moved on he began to weep, and it was said to him, “What makes you weep?” He replied, “I weep because a servant who was sent after me will have more of his community enter Paradise than mine.”
Then he carried me up to the seventh heaven, and Gabriel asked for it to be opened.
“Who is this?”
“Gabriel.”
“And who is with you?”
“Muhammad.”
“Has he been sent for?”
“Yes.”
“Welcome to him; what an excellent arrival!” When I entered, I found Abraham.
He said, “This is your father Abraham; greet him.” I greeted him and he returned my greeting, saying, “Welcome, righteous son and righteous Prophet.”
Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary was raised before me. [Its berries were like the earthenware jars of Hajar, and its leaves like the ears of elephants. He said, “This is the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary.”]
There were four rivers: two hidden and two visible. I asked, “What are these, Gabriel?” He said, “The hidden ones are rivers in Paradise, while the visible ones are the Nile and the Euphrates.”
Then the Frequented House was raised up for me—[every day seventy thousand angels enter it and never return]. After that I was brought a vessel of wine, a vessel of milk, and a vessel of honey. I chose the milk.
He said, “It is the natural disposition upon which you and your community are.”
Then fifty prayers were made obligatory upon me each day. I went back and passed by Moses, who asked, “What have you been commanded?”
I said, “I have been commanded to perform fifty prayers every day.”
He said, “Your community will not be able to bear fifty prayers a day. By God, I have tried people before you and dealt with the Children of Israel most strenuously—”
