Yūnus ibn Bukayr said:
Ibrāhīm ibn ʿUthmān narrated to us, from al-Qāsim, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who said: “Khadījah bore to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—two sons and four daughters: al-Qāsim, ʿAbd Allāh, Fāṭimah, Umm Kulthūm, Zaynab, and Ruqayyah.”
Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkār said: ʿAbd Allāh is the same child known as al-Ṭayyib and al-Ṭāhir; he was given these titles because he was born after the Prophet had been sent. Both boys died before the public mission, whereas all four daughters lived to witness the advent of the Message, embraced Islam, and migrated with him—peace and blessings be upon him.
Ibn Hishām (1) said: “As for Ibrāhīm, he was the son of Māriyah the Copt, whom al-Muqawqis, the ruler of Alexandria, presented to the Prophet. She came from Hafn, a village in the district of Anṣinā.” (2)
We shall discuss his wives and children—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in a separate chapter at the end of this Sīrah, if Allah wills; in Him alone is all trust.
Ibn Hishām (3) also stated: “The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—was twenty-five years old when he married Khadījah, as related to me by more than one scholar, among them Abū ʿAmr al-Madani.”
Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān said: “I wrote from Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir, who related to me through ʿUmar ibn Abī Bakr al-Mawṣilī (4)—and others concurred—that ʿAmr ibn Asad gave Khadījah in marriage to the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—when he was twenty-five years old and the Quraysh were rebuilding the Kaʿbah.”
Al-Bayhaqī likewise transmitted from al-Ḥākim that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—was twenty-five when he married Khadījah, while she was thirty-five—though some say twenty-five.
Al-Bayhaqī (5) said:
Chapter: What the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—was occupied with before marrying Khadījah.
Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ informed us; Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh related to us; al-Ḥasan ibn Sufyān told us; Suwayd ibn Saʿīd narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qurashī (6) narrated to us, from his grandfather Saʿīd, from Abū Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said
