“You have been blessed with a son—come and see him!”
When ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib arrived, she informed him of all she had witnessed while carrying the child, of what had been said to her concerning him, and of the name she had been instructed to give him.
ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib then took the newborn, brought him before Hubal inside the Kaʿbah, and there he stood, supplicating and thanking Allah, saying:
[from rajaz]
Praise be to Allah who has granted me
this gracious boy, pure in every limb. (1)
Already, while still in the cradle, he outshines all children.
I shelter him in the House with its steadfast pillars,
until he reaches the vigor of youth,
until I behold him full-grown and strong.
I seek refuge for him from every spiteful soul,
from every envious heart whose reins are unbridled,
from one whose zeal is blind,
until I see him eloquent of tongue. (2)
You are the one named in the Qur’an,
in scriptures firmly established; (3)
“Ahmad” is a name inscribed upon every tongue.
Al-Bayhaqī (4) said: Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥāfiẓ narrated to us; Abū Bakr Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad ibn Ḥātim al-Dārābajirdī—at Marw—told us; Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Būshanjī narrated to us; Abū Ayyūb Sulaymān ibn Salamah al-Khubāʾirī narrated to us; Yūnus ibn ʿAṭāʾ ibn ʿUthmān ibn Rabīʿah ibn Ziyād ibn Ḥārith al-Ṣuddāʾī—while in Egypt—narrated to us; al-Ḥakam ibn Abān, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, from his father al-ʿAbbās ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, reported:
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was born already circumcised and with his umbilical cord severed. This amazed his grandfather ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, and the child became dear to him. He said, ‘Surely this son of mine will have a great destiny.’ And so he did.” (6)
