In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Introduction
All praise is due to Allah, and may blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, his Companions, and all who follow his guidance.
After loving Allah and His Messenger, it is obligatory to love Allah’s allies and to oppose His enemies.
Among the fundamental tenets of the Islamic creed is that every Muslim who adheres to this faith must ally himself with its followers and repudiate its adversaries: he loves the people of tawhid (pure monotheism) and sincerity and shows loyalty to them, while he loathes the people of shirk (polytheism) and opposes them. This forms part of the religion of Abraham and those who were with him—whom we have been commanded to follow—where Allah, Exalted is He, says: “Indeed, you have an excellent example in Abraham and those with him when they said to their people, ‘We disown you and all that you worship besides Allah. We reject you, and between us and you enmity and hatred have appeared forever—until you believe in Allah alone.’” (Al-Mumtahana 4).
