(8/357): “Some of our jurists considered it recommended to praise Allah after intercourse. Ibn Rajab mentioned this in his Tafsīr al-Fātiḥa.” End quote.
2 – In his book al-Tahbīr he cites Ibn Rajab in two places:
The first (3/1374): “Abū Bakr al-Rāzī the Ḥanafī said that the basmala is a separate verse revealed to mark the division between the surahs. Ibn Rajab stated in Tafsīr al-Fātiḥa: ‘This is the sound position transmitted from Abū Ḥanīfa.’ I (the author) add: This is also the explicit view of Imām Aḥmad and the position adopted by his followers. Ibn Rajab went on to say: ‘This is the opinion of the majority of scholars, among them ʿAṭāʾ, al-Shaʿbī, al-Zuhrī, al-Thawrī, Ibn al-Mubārak, al-Shāfiʿī, Aḥmad, Isḥāq, Abū ʿUbayd, Dāwūd, and Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥasan.’
The second (3/1375): “Imām Mālik, his disciples, al-Awzāʿī, Ibn Jarīr al-Ṭabarī, and others held that it is not Qurʾan in any sense; some Ḥanafīs said the same, and it is also reported from Aḥmad. Yet Ibn Rajab remarked in Tafsīr al-Fātiḥa: ‘The authenticity of this report from Aḥmad is open to question; rather, it is a remembrance, like the istiʿādha (the formula “I seek refuge [with Allah]”).’ ” End quote.
3 – Ibn al-Najjār, in his Sharḥ al-Kawkab al-Munīr, cites Ibn Rajab in two passages (2/124, 126), both of which have already been mentioned in al-Mardāwī’s discussion in
