Verifying the book’s attribution:
Converging lines of evidence confirm that this work belongs to al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Rajab. They are as follows:
First: the statement written on the cover of the manuscript, which explicitly ascribes the book to him. I shall reproduce its exact wording in the next paragraph.
Second: a number of Ibn Rajab’s biographers list this treatise among his writings. Yūsuf ibn ʿAbd al-Hādī says in al-Jawhar al-Munaḍḍad (p. 50) while enumerating his works: “And the book Iʿrāb Umm al-Qurʾān, one volume; it may in fact be the book on the Fātiḥa.” End quote.
Third: several scholars have cited this treatise and attributed it to al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Rajab. Among them are:

a) In the Book of Prayer, section on the Description of Prayer, he states (2/48): “There is a report from him—i.e. regarding the basmala—that it is not Qurʾan in any absolute sense; rather, it is a remembrance.
