Ahmad and al-Nasa’i (1).
Al-Tirmidhi also related it through the chain of ʿAbd al-ʿAziz ibn Muhammad, from al-ʿAlaʾ, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet ﷺ said to Ubayy ibn Kaʿb:
“Would you like me to teach you a surah such that nothing like it has been revealed in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, or the Furqan?”
I replied, “Yes.”
He asked, “How do you recite in the prayer?”
So I recited the Mother of the Quran.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, nothing like it has been sent down in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, or the Furqan. It is the Seven Oft-Repeated Verses and the Magnificent Quran that has been granted to me.”
Al-Tirmidhi remarked, “A sound and good hadith” (2).
Imam Ahmad recorded the same report in abridged form through the chain of Sulayman ibn Dawud, from Ismaʿil ibn Jaʿfar, from al-ʿAlaʾ (3).
Saʿid ibn Jubayr narrated from Ibn ʿAbbas concerning Allah’s words, “And We have certainly given you the Seven Oft-Repeated [verses] and the Magnificent Quran” (al-Hijr 87): he said, “It is the Opening of the Book” (4). Allah exempted it for the community of Muhammad ﷺ and treasured it up for them.
