—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—: “Our wealth has fallen into neglect. Allah has strengthened Islam and its supporters have grown numerous, so why do we not remain with our property and restore what has been neglected?” Allah then revealed to His Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—a refutation of what we had said: “Spend in the cause of Allah, and do not cast yourselves into destruction with your own hands.” Destruction, therefore, meant remaining with our property to tend to it and abandoning military campaigns. Abū Ayyūb continued to go forth in the cause of Allah until he was buried in Byzantine territory. (1)
It is evident that everything is good when kept in its proper place. To put something where it does not belong is a grave error—indeed, blatant ignorance—let alone when it amounts to disputing about the Quran, from which Allah’s protection is sought. If we denounce this, we have the example of the early generations to follow. Allah is the Guide to a straight path.
