8 – ʿAbd al-Karim ibn Abi al-Mukharriq reports from Tawus:
A man came to Ibn ʿUmar and asked, “Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman, what about those who break our necks, burrow into our houses, and raid our possessions—have they become disbelievers?” He replied, “No.” The man then said, “Then those who misinterpret the texts against us and shed our blood—have they become disbelievers?” He answered, “No, not unless they associate something with Allah.”
Tawus adds: I was watching Ibn ʿUmar’s finger as he moved it while saying, “The Sunnah of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.” A group of transmitters have related this report and have traced it directly back to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
