5 – Al-Haytham narrated, through al-Shaʿbī, from Masrūq, from ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
“When the verse, ‘Indeed, those who consume the property of orphans wrongfully are only filling their bellies with fire, and they will enter a Blazing Flame’ (Qur’an 4:10) was revealed, the people who had been looking after the orphans’ wealth held back from it. Guarding that wealth became difficult for them, and they feared sin for themselves. Then another verse was sent down to lighten the matter: ‘They ask you about the orphans. Say: setting matters right for them is best; and if you mix your affairs with theirs, they are your brothers…’ (Qur’an 2:220).”
