12 – Narrated by Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Abū al-Zaʿrāʾ—one of Ibn Masʿūd’s companions—who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “By my intercession members of the believing community will most certainly be brought out of the Fire, until no one is left in it except the people described in this verse:
‘What drove you into Saqar?’
They will answer, ‘We were not among those who prayed;
we did not feed the poor;
we used to plunge into idle talk with the gossipers;
and we used to deny the Day of Recompense,
until certainty came upon us.
So the intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them.’ (al-Muddaththir 74:42–48).”
In another narration, Ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “Allah, Exalted is He, will punish certain people from among the believers, then He will bring them out through the intercession of Muḥammad ﷺ, until only those remain of whom Allah, Exalted is He, has said:
‘What drove you into Saqar? … So the intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them.’ (al-Muddaththir 74:42–48).”
