6 – ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn al-Raddād related, through Tammām, from Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him), that a group of the Prophet’s Companions once came in to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said, “Why do I see your teeth so discolored? Use the siwak! Were it not that I might impose hardship on my community, I would have commanded them to use the siwak before every prayer.”
In another wording he said, “Why is it that you enter upon me with stained teeth? Use the siwak, for were it not that I might burden my community, I would have ordered them to use the siwak before every prayer, or at every ablution.”
