7 – Hammād narrated from Ibrāhīm, from Hammām, from ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim, who said: I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, “Messenger of Allah, we send out our trained hunting dogs—may we eat what they catch for us?” He replied, “Yes, as long as you have mentioned the name of Allah Most High and no other dog joins them.” I asked, “Even if the dog kills the prey?” He said, “Even if it kills it.” I then said, “Messenger of Allah, sometimes one of us shoots with a miʿrāḍ, a broad-headed arrow.” He said, “When you shoot and pronounce the name of Allah, and the point pierces the animal, then eat; but if it strikes with its flat side, do not eat.”
